Entity & SERP Matching
Traditional search rank trackers operate on a simple assumption: success means your exact landing page URL appears as a clickable blue link on a search engine results page.
Generative engine optimization (GEO) and answer engine optimization (AEO) change this reality. AI Overviews, generative search engines, and conversational LLM assistants synthesize responses from multiple source documents. They often mention your brand name, cite your organization, or recommend your products without placing an explicit hyperlinked URL.
Paceghost uses Main-Content Isolation and Triple-Pass Matching to measure both direct links and unlinked AI co-citations across search channels.
1. Main-Content Isolation & Noise Filtering
Section titled “1. Main-Content Isolation & Noise Filtering”Before any matching or content scoring takes place, Step 2 of the audit renders your page in a full headless browser. Rather than inspecting raw HTML files, Paceghost analyzes the rendered DOM structure:
- Primary Copy Scoping: Content evaluation is scoped strictly inside primary content elements (
<main>or<article>). Navigation menus, headers, footers, sidebars, and cookie consent banners are excluded from content density and citation calculations. - UI Noise Filtering: Visual assets are evaluated for alt-text quality, but decorative UI elements (icons, badges, arrows, and SVGs smaller than 48x48 pixels) are filtered out so layout icons do not distort media metrics.
This ensures that your E-E-A-T scores and content profiles reflect your actual body copy—not the site’s layout boilerplate.
2. Triple-Pass Matching Strategy
Section titled “2. Triple-Pass Matching Strategy”When benchmarking keywords across SEO, GEO, and AEO channels in Step 4, Paceghost evaluates returned search snippets and AI answer texts using three hierarchical matching passes:
Pass 1: Direct URL Match ───> Your domain's URL found (apex-level match) │ (if no link) ▼Pass 2: Apex Domain Match ──> Domain name (e.g. domain.com) in text │ (if not in the text) ▼Pass 3: Brand & Entity ─────> Brand name your site states, as a whole wordPass 1 — Direct URL Match
Section titled “Pass 1 — Direct URL Match”Identifies links to your domain in standard SERPs, citation cards, or hyperlinked source buttons. URL matching works at the domain (apex) level, so a link to any page on your domain counts. This represents traditional search visibility.
Pass 2 — Apex Domain Match
Section titled “Pass 2 — Apex Domain Match”Detects your apex domain (e.g., example.com) appearing anywhere in the AI answer text, source list, or raw snippet—even when not formatted as an active HTML hyperlink.
Pass 3 — TLD-Stripped Brand & Entity Co-Citation Match
Section titled “Pass 3 — TLD-Stripped Brand & Entity Co-Citation Match”Scans the AI response text for your brand name as a whole word. We only use brand names that your own site states: the name in its schema.org markup (Organization name, alternate name and brand, WebSite name, Brand), a name marked with ® or ™ that matches your domain, or the name in your domain. This pass captures:
- Unlinked RAG Citations: When an AI model retrieves data from your domain and cites your brand name in text without embedding a link.
- Conversational Recommendations: When an LLM includes your domain or brand in a recommended list of products or services.
- Co-mentions: When your organization is cited alongside industry peers in AI-generated overviews.
3. Deterministic Signal Verification
Section titled “3. Deterministic Signal Verification”Many AI evaluation platforms rely on LLMs to “rate” or “guess” a site’s quality, leading to fluctuating scores between runs.
Paceghost separates content extraction from signal evaluation:
- AI models are used in Step 3 to build your Synthetic Domain Profile (extracting summary, branded, unbranded, and user-intent queries).
- All structural quality signals (including the 5-pillar E-E-A-T score matrix) are computed 100% deterministically directly from your rendered DOM snapshot. The exact same page snapshot will always produce the exact same E-E-A-T score.
4. Interpreting Match Results & False Positives
Section titled “4. Interpreting Match Results & False Positives”Triple-Pass Matching gives you a complete view of how generative engines reference your brand. When reviewing match details in your audit dashboard or exported reports:
- High-Value Hits: Direct URL links and apex domain matches indicate strong explicit attribution.
- Brand Mentions: Entity co-citations show where AI engines recognize your authority even when links are omitted.
- Context Verification: Common dictionary words that overlap with brand names (for example, “apple” in a recipe context vs. Apple Inc.) can produce partial matches. Audit reports include the surrounding snippet text so you can quickly verify contextual relevance.
